چکیده
background and aims. one of the most common reasons for the inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia failure is the variation in mandibular foramen location. the aim of this study was to assess the location of mandibular foramen in children with mandibular retrognathism in comparison to children with normal skeletal occlusion in the mixed dentition. materials and methods. one hundred and twenty panoramic radiographs of patients in mixed dentition period, undergoing orthodontic treatment, were selected based on inclusion criteria, skeletal occlusion and stage of dental development. the radiographs were divided into two groups: i: 60 panoramic radiographs of patients with normal skeletal occlusion (15 in each of the hellman dental age stages); ii: 60 panoramic radiographs of patients with mandibular retrognathism (15 in each of the hellman dental age stages). the radiographs were traced and the linear distance from the mandibular foramen to the borders of the mandibular ramus and its angular position were identified. the measurements were compared between the two groups and among the four dental age groups by t-test, anova and post hoc tests. results. no statistically significant differences were found between the patients with normal skeletal occlusion and patients with mandibular retrognathism (p>0.05). statistical tests showed significant differences in the vertical location of mandibular foramen and gonial angle between the four dental age groups (p<0.05). conclusion. mandibular retrognathism does not have a significant impact on the location of the mandibular foramen in the mixed dentition period. the child’s dental age would be considered in the localization of the mandibular foramen.

متن کاملIndicators of mandibular dental crowding in the mixed dentition.
PURPOSE Dental crowding occurring in the anterior part of the mandible in the early mixed dentition has been a subject of increasing concern for child patients, their parents, and the pediatric dentist. The aim of this study was to evaluate indicators of crowding found at the primary dentition, which may lead to the future manifestation of crowding at the anterior part of the mandibular arch in...
متن کاملTreatment of Mandibular Retrognathism with the Herbst Appliance
The first attempt at stimulating growth of the mandible in therapy of distal bite Class II/1 was initiated by Kingsley in 1877. The method described as “jumping the bite” is still applied today according to the principle of functional bimaxillary appliances such as for example activator, bionator, function regulator (1-3) and others, whereby the mandible is brought into the anterior position by...
متن کاملPosition of Mandibular Foramen and Incidence of Accessory Mandibular Foramen in Dry Mandibles
To determine the position of mandibular foramen (MF) from various parts of ramus of mandible and the incidence of accessory mandibular foramen (AMF) by studying on dry mandibles to assist dental surgeons to conduct dental procedures. Study was carried out on 100 dry mandibles of which 84 are dentulous and 16 are edentulous. The average distance of MF from the anterior boarder of mandibular ramu...

RESULTS Extending imaging diagnostics to ...
متن کاملTongue volume and the mandibular dentition.
0 rthodontists long have believed that the tongue and facial musculature play an important role in the establishment of alveolar arch form and in the precise positioning of the teeth. Among the more recent writers taking such a view are Ballard,2 Baker,l Graber,5 MOSS,~ and Hovell.? Brodie4 is perhaps representative of this group when he writes: “Alveolar bone being as labile as it. is, it shou...
